We are extremely proud of Rugiatu Neneh Turay for being presented with the International Human Rights Award For Political Courage and Sincerity from the City of Esslingen am Neckar on October 24th, 2020. The award is given every three years to individuals or groups who have made outstanding contributions to human rights, peace and democracy. In Rugiatu’s case, it is to honor her commitment to the fight to abolish Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and her impact regarding the empowerment of women in Sierra Leone.

In its press release, the city of Esslingen writes that Rugiatu is “a leading figure in the fight against Female Genital Mutilation in Sierra Leone, representing and promoting women’s rights in the political system of the country”. We could not agree more, and thank Rugiatu from the bottom of our hearts for her hugely important work. It is wonderful to see her successful and sustainable work being increasingly recognized in Germany.
