Feeding Program at Merha Tebeb School

PfefferminzGreen has been supporting this wonderful project for 4 years now. Thanks to Almaz, a teacher who fights to grant even the poorest children in the village access to education, 50 children get one warm meal a day at school. 10 of these 50 children are HIV-positive, and receive no medication due to financial shortcomings – the parents of many of these children are beggars. Without this daily meal at school, these children would be cleaning shoes in the streets or begging themselves to be able to eat even once a day. A hungry child can’t concentrate in class! But how can a mother send her child to school if she can barely afford food? Almaz also looks out for the academic development of her students, as parents often do not have the capacities to help their children with schoolwork. The School Feeding Program not only offers students a warm meal – it proves that their academic performance is valued. The goal of this project is to render possible a better, self-determined future for these children.
